H1 bulb is a high-beam light that illuminates the surroundings over a long-range. It is a single beam light with one filament. One filament means that you must buy four bulbs when replacing your headlights, a high and low beam for either side.

It has bright, long-range lights that are not used all the time but in dark rural roads and open freeways. It can output up to 1410 lumens. Its nominal rating is 55watts on either 12v or 6v. It requires two bulbs for each headlight, each with its reflector.

H1 bulbs can be used either a high or low beam. The reflector and lens are designed to throw the light straight out with a focus point for the bulb to work as a high beam unit.

The reflector is designed differently to focus the light closer and lower to work as a low beam. Using a P14.5 base, in line with the IEC 60061, and has a single flat metal insert. Ensure you install H1 in the correct orientation. These bulbs give 4000 candelas (light intensity measurement).

The bulb is placed in the headlight’s optical element at an adjacent distance from the reflector. Power runs through the connector, which will heat the bulb’s filament to produce light in the bowl-shaped reflector.

Fragility of the H1 headlight bulb is real. In cold temperatures, the hotter the filaments get, the more brittle they will be. Because of the continuous expansion and contraction of filaments, it affects their durability.

It is prone to breaking from shocks and vibrations. In hotter temperatures, it may cause premature filament damage from the light’s heat and the environment around it, especially in bulbs with no cooling system.
